Official Thomas Kushin Homepage: Music: Sweet Thanatopsis (2010)
On the mountaintop where high joy overlooks the precipice of life's futility, time is suspended in the moment of contemplation when omnipotent death becomes Sweet Thanatopsis: life seen in the perspective of its momentary brevity, with little distinction between deeply felt joy and tears of sorrow or between a heart of compassion and the nurtured irony of an absurdist. In "Sweet Thanatopsis" and "Eiderdown", Thomas Kushin provides us with a glimpse into this state of mind with alto sax improvisations recorded during an afternoon spent in nature at alpine heights, tracks recorded consecutively and created in a state of relaxed anticipation, inspired by birds and winds, illustrating streams of consciousness. While "Daily Bread" (guitar improv) is a return to the hustle and bustle of life below, "Dickcissel" is an encore and celebration capturing the dance.
